Play In Review: The Soap Myth
Posted Jul 23 2009 On the surface, the new play "The Soap Myth" is about the controversy over whether the Nazis made soap from human (Jewish) fat. For some, this is no controversy at all, but for many, the issue of soap has become a battlefield. And soap has, in fact, been reclassified by the scholarly establishment from fact to myth. But the play is also about the politics of denial, as well as about Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Abu Mazen and David Irving and everyone bent on manipulating the truth and rewriting history and declaring the Holocaust itself a hoax. "The Soap Myth is playing now at the South Street Seaport through August 2nd. For ticket information, call 718-934-8800.

human skin
Date 06:06, 06-16, 11 What do the academics say about the use of human skin for lamp shades - reportedly by the "Witch of Buchenwald" -- Ilse Koch -- who was accused of taking skin of murdered inmates with distinctive tattoos as souvenirs and who was later tried by the US Military. The debate over whether it is fact or myth is the reason eye witness accounts are so critical to recording history and it is not left to debate by academics later on.
